About the Artist

Amber Cutts Mairal is a multidisciplinary artist based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country (Canberra, ACT). Her artistic process is deeply intuitive—often diving in with only a feeling, allowing the media and movement to take the lead, while at other times, she is guided by a clear vision. With a background in Medical Science, her curiosity in scientific research weaves through her art, manifesting in fluid, cellular forms that bridge science and creativity. While she primarily works with acrylic and oils, her practice remains dynamic, embracing experimentation with different materials, techniques, and surfaces depending on the moment's inspiration.

From a young age, Amber spent long summers at her grandparents' home in Huesca, Spain, with little more than paper and a small container of miscellaneous pens and pencils. She would pass the time scribbling and sketching, drawing inspiration from her Yaya’s old drawings. The contrast between the calm Spanish countryside and the vibrant, chaotic energy of loud family lunches has influenced her artistic ways and approach—where fluidity meets structure, and spontaneity balances intention.

The raw connection and authenticity in Amber’s work stem from her creative process—rooted in presence and freedom. She believes the most important part of creating is being fully immersed in the moment, allowing the work to evolve naturally and resonate deeply with those who experience it.
